Revelation 2 Part 3 - What You Believe is Essential
Pastor Wes Denham
Pastor Wes continues his series in Revelation, teaching on the church in Pergamum (Revelation 2:12–17). Jesus acknowledges their faithfulness in the face of persecution—even when Antipas was martyred—but warns that they are allowing compromise through false teachings like those of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. Pastor Wes describes Pergamum as a spiritually dark city, symbolized by “Satan’s throne,” and emphasizes that believers today also live in a culture filled with idolatry, immorality, and spiritual deception.
He explains that the “sharp two-edged sword” from Jesus’ mouth refers to God’s Word, which cuts through lies and reveals truth. Pastor Wes reminds the congregation that repentance isn’t shameful—it’s a necessary and life-giving turn back toward God. He also warns against tolerating sin in media, entertainment, and unforgiveness. Sharing powerful personal stories, Pastor Wes highlights the dangers of hidden sin and the need for daily spiritual nourishment.
He closes with a promise of reward: those who overcome compromise will receive hidden manna and a white stone with a new, intimate name from Jesus—symbolizing purity, acceptance, and relationship.

In Revelation 2:12–17, Pastor Wes explains Jesus’ warning to the church in Pergamum—a faithful yet compromised church. Though they held fast to Christ, they tolerated false teachings and immorality. Pastor Wes urges believers to stay rooted in truth, avoid cultural compromise, and remain accountable. To those who overcome, Jesus promises hidden manna and a new name only He knows.
