Revelation 12 Part 1 - The Accuser Is Thrown Out Of Heaven
Pastor Wes Denham
Working through the opening eleven verses of Revelation 12, Pastor Wes unpacks the two great signs John witnesses in heaven—a woman clothed with the sun and a great fiery red dragon poised to devour her child. Pastor Wes is careful to point out that the word “sign” governs how the imagery should be read, identifying the woman as the nation of Israel, the male child as Jesus the Messiah, and the dragon as Satan himself, who has hated the promised Seed since Genesis 3.
Pastor Wes draws out Satan’s current role as “the prince of the power of the air” from Ephesians 2, explaining how the enemy still exercises real influence over the atmosphere of this world even while believers, in Christ, hold absolute authority over him. He walks through the war in heaven between Michael and the dragon, then turns to verse 11—the three means by which the saints overcome the accuser: the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and a refusal to love their lives unto death.
Pastor Wes ties these realities directly to the present moment—the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk, the violence shaping American culture, and the slaughter of believers in Nigeria. He urges the congregation to recognize unforgiveness as a foothold the enemy exploits, to resist the devil’s lies by standing firm rather than fleeing, and to know their own testimony of grace. The closing charge is sober: finish the race well, and do not love this life so much that fear silences the gospel.
Teaching through Revelation 12:1–11, Pastor Wes identifies the signs in heaven—the woman as Israel, the child as Christ, the dragon as Satan—and traces the enemy’s ancient hatred of the Messiah. He highlights the three weapons by which believers overcome the accuser: the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and a willingness not to love their lives unto death, even amid rising persecution.
